Wednesday, July 22nd from 11:00 am – 11:45 am Pacific Time
We invite curious minds, outdoor enthusiasts, and lifelong learners to join researcher Julia Guimond (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) and educator Lauren Kurzius live from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, as they investigate how rising seas, storms, and changing Arctic conditions are reshaping Alaska’s Beaufort Sea coastline. Julia and Lauren will share how researchers collect groundwater samples, map the landscape with high-precision GPS equipment, and measure greenhouse gases moving between the tundra and the atmosphere. You’ll also hear how scientists piece together information from chemistry, ecology, and geology to understand how saltwater intrusion affects permafrost landscapes and the plants, soils, and waters that make up the Arctic ecosystem.
Please share this with your favorite educators, local library, science center, or community group—they might want to host a watch party!
