Educator Application:

Key information to know before you apply:

  • September 25, 2023 update: Applications are now closed. Please register for email updates to receive announcements about next year’s applications. A huge thanks to everyone for your interest and the time invested in developing your application.
  • Educators in the following areas are welcome to apply: 
    • Educators across all subject areas. 
    • Informal educators who work in science education settings such as museums and science centers. 
    • Faculty from community colleges and Minority Serving Institutions. 
    • Middle and High school educators.  
  • Virtual and field collaborations are available.

  • Application questions can be previewed here.  Applications must be submitted through the application portal, InfoReady, below.  Emailed applications will not be accepted.

Researcher Application:

Key information to know before you apply:

  • Polar STEAM is a partner in your broader impacts work and facilitates collaborations between educators, artists, & writers and polar researchers.  Virtual and field collaborations are available. 
  • Applications are open for the following polar seasons: 
    • Arctic field research, boreal summer 2024 
    • Antarctic field research, austral summer 2024/25 
    • Virtual collaborations, Arctic and Antarctic, 2024/25 
  • Researchers pre-planning for future years are welcome to email [email protected] 
  • Polar STEAM welcomes applications from NSF-funded polar researchers across a wide spectrum of research disciplines including social sciences.

  • Ensure the research team is fully apprised of this application and designate one researcher on the team as the primary point of contact with Polar STEAM.  
  • Researchers are strongly encouraged to attend the informational webinar on August 22, 2023 at 11am Pacific Time or watch the recording of the previous webinar.

Antarctic Artists & Writers Application:

  • September 1, 2023 update: Applications are now closed. Please register for email updates to receive announcements about next year’s applications. Current applicants will be notified of their status by September 30, 2023. A huge thanks to everyone for your interest and the time invested in developing your application.

  • Polar STEAM welcomes applications from working artists, writers, and creative practitioners in a variety of genres, from traditional to experimental. 
  • Before you apply, please read the FAQs
  • Because the potential creative scope of projects will be determined in part by logistical considerations in the remote Antarctic environment, we strongly encourage applicants to attend the informational webinar on July 11, 2023 at 11am Pacific Time (or view the recording) in order to prepare the strongest possible application.  Watch the recording of the webinar and read answers to questions asked during the webinar. 
  • Application questions can be previewed here.  Applications must be submitted through the application portal, Submittable, below. Please note: the banner will show Spring Creek Project but the application title is correct. Emailed applications will not be accepted. 
  • Semi-finalists will be required to prepare a logistics plan. The questions can be previewed here. 
  • If you have additional questions about the application process or logistics in Antarctica, please email [email protected]. Staff are unable to comment on the merit of the creative proposal, but can provide technical assistance with the application.
