Thursday, February 20th from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. Pacific Time.
Featuring Polar STEAM fellow, Madeline Blount. Hosted by MacArthur Fellow (2008) and multidisciplinary artist Walter Kitundu, advisor to the Polar STEAM Antarctic Artist and Writers program.
This livestream event invites artist, researchers, and curious learners to tune in, learn, and ask questions about artistic practices and Antarctic research conducted on the Research Vessel Nathaniel B. Palmer. The content will be aimed at artistic audiences, but we welcome all to join us. Artist Fellow Madeline Blount joined Researcher Fellow Kevin Arrigo and Educator Fellow Bhavna Rawal onboard the R/V Nathaniel B. Palmer December-February, 2025 to build a generative machine learning “speculative live cam” that interprets and visualizes the Antarctic environment in new and unexpected ways. She will share information about her experience collaborating with scientists and highlights from her journey in this remote setting with host Walter Kitundu. While the event will be recorded for anyone to see at a later time, those that watch it live will have the opportunity to post questions to get real-time answers from the Polar STEAM fellow.
